Emma Guthrey is a Ceramicist and Architect living and working on Awabakal and Yuin Country.

Emma’s practice explores mark making and its relationship to form. Her work is predominantly hand built, firing to low temperatures.  She uses pit firing, saggar firing, sgraffito and oxides to impart marks and memories to clay forms. She is fascinated with the process of abandoning ceramic work to the fire, letting it go to allow for something unexpected and changed to return. 

Emma currently has work in the ‘Newcastle Art Gallery’ Shop and ‘The Gallery Shop’ at Back to Back Galleries at Newcastle Studio Potters
